A Talk Show for World Water Day 2011
In recognition of this year’s World Water Day, Michelle Mungall, MLA for Nelson-Creston, is bringing together four of British Columbia’s influential women crusaders to talk about water. This will be a new, live talk show event that brings together a group of dynamic women of different ages, experiences and backgrounds to discuss their views on water issues.

About the Radio Series

Women and Water is a radio series that shares the stories of women advocating for water. Host Michelle Mungall is the MLA representing Nelson-Creston, a beautiful water-rich constituency in the Kootenay region of British Columbia. The show raises consciousness about threats to this basic human need through passionate interviews with women crusaders who have made it their mission to defend access to clean, pure, public water.

As activists, women play important roles in society. They stand up for their beliefs and give a strong voice to issues that matter to everyone. The women on this program are no exception. And when it comes to water they will not be mute.

About the Host

Michelle Mungall is the youngest woman serving in the B.C. legislature, and the first woman ever elected to the Nelson riding. She chairs the NDP Opposition Women's Caucus and sits on the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services.

In the summer of 2009, Mungall fought with families and businesses in the Kootenays to protect the Glacier-Howser watershed from industrial development. This pristine wilderness area was threatened by what locals call "ruin-of-river" development - private power projects that fragment habitat and devastate freshwater fish stocks.

For Mungall and her constituents, losing these creeks to private interests was not an option, and they effectively shut down the project for a year. As the battle for public water continues Mungall and her guests will continue to inspire and inform.
